The Ginger Room

Foreword:

Hello, dear friends. Hope you're having a wonderful day upon reading this post and thank you for visiting another blog entry at, "Elle and the Peach." This article is one that is near and dear to my heart. Upon writing this entry, I made a visit to The Ginger Room. During my time there, one of the Ginger Room’s guests said something that resonated with me so profoundly. She said that the art of tea drinking has the ability to "ease one's soul." I hope this post does the same for you <3 Enjoy.

-E

Angela had always dreamt of starting her very own tea room and in 2019, she decided to do exactly that.  Let us start with the origin of the tea room's name. Upon a long-standing cycle of stomach aches, Angela's fiancé, Dr. Karl suggested she try a special, cold-pressed ginger juice remedy that he used in his time growing up in South London. Shortly thereafter, not only did the fresh ginger juice halt Angela's stomach pains, but the health benefits were above and beyond. Soon enough, she was making several variations of cold-pressed ginger juices and ginger teas and made the decision to start a business to share these benefits with others. This, in turn, manifested into what we now know today as, "The Ginger Room." 💗

The Ginger Room is one of the first black-owned tea rooms in Alpharetta, Georgia, and continues to rank highly amongst tea rooms in the Atlanta area. The building where The Ginger Room vacates is one of the oldest houses in the Alpharetta, Georgia area, and is known as the The Skeleton-Teasley House, which was originally owned by one of the first doctors and postmasters in the Alpharetta area, Dr. Oliver P. Skelton.

As I approached the historic Skelton-Teasley House on Roswell Street; it felt as though I was about to take a step back into time, a cinematic moment. It was in an established neighborhood, but looked just a tad out-of-place next to the tall, modern development next door. Refreshingly so. The facade was somewhat plain, with a dash of stately charm. The historic marker in front stated that it had indeed been originally owned by a person of significance – one of the first doctors and postmasters in the Alpharetta area, Dr. Oliver P. Skelton. The plaque also noted that the building sat on one of the highest elevation points in the city and is amongst the oldest buildings in the area.

Upon stepping inside, I noticed the creaking of old wooden floors. It was heartwarmingly nostalgic, and reminded me of my Grandfather’s childhood home in Mississippi; reminiscent of a time long gone. I was greeted by a large, antique chandelier hanging in the main tea room. Lovely robin's egg blue walls fill out the room, accompanied by an old brick fireplace and another wall covered with damask wallpaper. In the front sat a sweet and elaborate table set for five. To the right, were two large chalkboards placed on either side of the window for coffee and juice menu options. A young manager presented me with an extensive menu of teas and pastries. I love that the menu has an assortment of classic teas such as English Breakfast, Earl Grey, and Jasmine Tea. Additionally, the menu also has some fun and unique teas such as Peach is the New Black and Lemon Meringue. However, one of my favorite teas was the one named, Prince Harry and Meg’s Royal Wedding Blend, the menu states it is composed of tasting notes such as Rooibos, Apple, Calendula, and Wild Rose Buds. The menu also hysterically states that one of this tea’s tasting notes is “Camping in South Africa.” If you know, you know.

Lastly, my favorite thing about The Ginger Room is the fact that they offer afternoon tea and high tea. Both options offer a wide array of delicious quiches, scones, croissants, and sandwiches accompanied with a choice of tea. Whether you fancy a pot of tea and nostalgia or your soul just needs a bit of easing, The Ginger Room is indeed the perfect spot.

Le Bon Nosh

Immediately upon walking into Le Bon Nosh, I am taken aback by the grandiose and elevated vibes the restaurant presents. In a world where the trends for buildings are modernized and somewhat bland Le Bon Nosh is well…refreshing. Le Bon Nosh is one of Atlanta’s newest privately-owned French American restaurants located in Buckhead, Atlanta. Tucked away in the neighborhood's night scene, this restaurant remains a statement piece. Le Bon Nosh was founded in 2021 by Georgia Tech and Cordon Bleu Paris Grad, Forough Vakili. So what does Le Bon Nosh mean exactly? According to the website, the French translation of Le Bon Nosh translates as "the good bite."  Le Bon Nosh states that it prides itself on serving ingredient-driven dishes that celebrate the simplicity of amazing food. Here’s what I loved most, Vakili says on her website, that when guests visit Le Bon Nosh, she wants them to feel as though they are eating at her dining room table.

When first walking into the entryway, one of the first things that caught my eye were the gorgeous saffron-colored drapes that sweep over the floor in the main dining room area. According to one of the managers, the drapes are reminiscent of Vakili’s time growing up on her family’s farm in Iran in which saffron was grown. The high ceilings and tall windows filling the space with natural light, paired with the golden cove lighting wrapped around the ceiling are simply divine and really provide a high-end chic feel to the restaurant. I also couldn't help but notice the navy blue floral chairs paired with dashes of Lilac and Fushia spread across the restaurant.

To the left of the foyer is a barista counter composed of white marble from top to bottom. There is a glass case filled with fresh, decadent pastries that are made daily. One of my favorite things to order from the Barista counter is their rich and creamy, rose latte. The rose lattes are made with a
homemade rose water syrup which requires a long preparation process according to one of the baristas. When finished, the latte is garnished with rose petals which makes for an especially nice treat.

Just on the other side of the restaurant is what many Le Bon Nosh frequenters have deemed an Instagram-friendly spot; the bar area <3 The countertop to the bar is also composed of white marble with wooden panels directly underneath.  A lovely traditional chandelier hangs in the middle of the bar area with a tall arched mirror similar to the one at the barista counter, which is nestled behind their wine and champagne selection. One of my other favorite things about Le Bon Nosh is how involved they are within their local farming community. On the back of each numbered ticket is the name of a local farmer that they work with and a small biography and summary of what the farmer produces. There is also a large bookshelf that is built into the wall of the kitchen that Vakili has installed and filled with cookbooks galore. Last but not least is one of the most unique items in the restaurant, a painting resembling that of a puzzle of the Brittany Coast by Tyler Hayes. Once again, another piece of Vakili’s past is woven into the walls of Le Bon Nosh.

Upon my dinner attendance at Le Bon Nosh, a few of my personal favorites were the duck confit, vegetable crudite, and the date cake. My favorite, however, was the fruit and fromage board.

While I’m sure I could continue writing this blog post, I will leave it at this. All in all, Le Bon Nosh is nothing short of decadence and a truly refreshing, chef-inspired experience.

Decor Ideas on a Budget

Here at Elle and the Peach, we totally understand that decorating can be fun, but also expensive at times. We've got three tips though to help keep your place chic and cute on a budget!

Fresh Cut Flowers

Having freshly cut flowers can keep the elegance and aroma in your home. You can usually find an array of affordable flowers such as irises, hydrangeas, and roses at Trader Joe's and Publix for under twenty dollars.

If you’re looking for flowers that can last a long time, tiger lilies and tulips can be great choices as they usually last for quite a few weeks. Another trick of the trade is to try drying out your hydrangea for a rustic vibe.

Mirrors and Candles

Whether it's a mirrored tray or a classic mirror to hang up in your living room, mirrors are one of the most affordable pieces when it comes to purchasing décor items for your home. If you're looking to have a Farmhouse decor aesthetic, then look for distressed pieces on the frame or even on the mirror. Adding candles can also help bring a whole mood to your room.
You can try adding traditional candles to your space or battery-powered candles that can work just as well. Either way, adding candles or mirrors can definitely help change up your space.

Coffee Books

We all know that coffee table books can be expensive, but they don't have to be. One great hack is to find coffee table dupes off of Etsy or you can also find these coffee table books under $100.00

The Garden Room

The Garden Room; is one of Atlanta's newest and hottest spots to go to for dinner and luxury décor. Located in the heart of Buckhead at the renowned St. Regis hotel; The Garden Room; is a secret garden of its own. The first thing that catches your eye when walking in is the sprawling luscious ivy on the ceiling which hovers over this gorgeous dogwood-esque tree. Lighting in the room is soft and yet exquisite creating a chill lounge-lux vibe. Almost all the chairs are upholstered with bold floral prints and brightly colored Fuchsia and Indigo shagging. In fact, there's even black and white Cheetah print with pink shagging. The lighting throughout the restaurant is everything; there is an array of chandeliers from beaming crystal rose chandeliers to the lavish beaded lampshade chandeliers on the opposite side of the restaurant. Some tables even feature lamps with beaded detailing. At night the restaurant also glows with romantic flickering candlelight. The menu mainly features upscale seafood items such as Chilean sea bass, lobster, oysters, and even caviar. However, it also offers entrees such as Wagyu burgers and gnocchi as well. As far as your music, you can also expect to hear classics such as Robin Thicke's “Magic” to Montel Jordan classics. If you care to dine in and experience this lovely garden, be sure to book a reservation early as they do typically fill up very quickly.
